Thanks to the way it is depicted in movies and television, craps seems more than complicated – it looks downright scary! In truth, once you know what you are doing, craps is a relatively simple game that provides hours of fun and excitement. By following a few simple tips and tricks, it is easy to play craps and look like the professionals.
The player is called the shooter and the game begins when the shooter throws the pair of dice for the first time. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, he wins. If he rolls 4-6 or 8-10, he does what is called “making a point,” which allows the game to go on. If he rolls a 2, 3, or 12 – these are the numbers that are actually called “craps” – he automatically loses. When the shooter makes a point, he continues rolling the dice; if he continues to make points, he wins, if he rolls 7, 11, or the craps, he now loses.
When it comes to betting on craps, some bets are obligatory. For example, the shooter has to bet initially and that bet stays on the table’s pass line as long as you make your point. If you roll 7, 11, or the craps, again, you lose.
You can either bet with the shooter – “betting right” – or against the shooter – “betting wrong” – but remember: every casino, online and off, has their own odds. It is vital to research these odds before you choose where to play.
“Betting wrong” is just the expression – it does not mean you have placed the wrong bet and will automatically lose. You are simply wagering that the shooter will roll a 7 or 11 instead of making his point.
You need to get the odds in your favor whenever you play craps. There are three essential tactics you need to employ if you want to win at craps: stay in the game; make sure that you can increase the bet while simultaneously winning; and get those odds in your favor.
The best way to keep the odds in your favor, or at least bring them even, is known as “free odds.” After initially throwing out a point, you then place another bet just beneath the pass line. The big pay-out can come if you make your point again with the new throw. You then get paid twice.
Clearly there is a huge opportunity for winning big when playing craps – but there is also a chance to lose big. This does not have to happen as long as you know what you are doing.
Research online craps strategies before you play and only allow yourself a set amount of money to put down. Make sure you know the odds at the online casino you choose, whether it is offline or in an online forum. Practice a few games in an online forum where you can play for fun and for free and then, when you are ready, go throw the bones and win big.
